Providing Affordable, Reliable Power

America has an abundance of domestic energy resources we can and must further develop to make us more energy independent. Coal currently fuels approximately fifty percent of our nation's electricity at nearly one-fourth the cost of natural gas. States that use the most coal for electricity generation have electric rates far lower than those that rely more heavily on natural gas, hydro, nuclear, and other energy resources.

  • Domestic sources of energy, including coal, natural gas, wind and solar, will help our country have a balanced, affordable and reliable source of power for decades to come.
  • Importing more expensive energy sources from abroad opens up the U.S. energy supply to the global market and all the economic and political risks associated with it.
  • We simply cannot meet our power generation needs by arbitrarily excluding clean coal from our state's energy portfolio.

  • North American Electricity Reliability Corporation (NERC)
NERC's mission is to improve the reliability and security of the bulk power system in North America. To achieve that, NERC develops and enforces reliability standards; monitors the bulk power system; assesses future adequacy; audits owners, operators, and users for preparedness; and educates and trains industry personnel. NERC is a self-regulatory organization that relies on the diverse and collective expertise of industry participants. As the Electric Reliability Organization, NERC is subject to audit by the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and governmental authorities in Canada.
